Generations Erased. Families Displaced. Americas Disgrace. This is the Trail of Tears. A devastating point in American History. Around 100,000 Native Americans from the Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Seminole, and other nations in the southeast, were forced out of their homes and forced to walk over 5,000 miles across 9 different states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. These six words not only provide a story, but also evoke true emotion of how devastating this event was to the Native American population in America. This image was chosen to show how many Native American men, women, and children were all forced to walk on these trails. It shows how crowded the walk was and how they had to walk in harsh winter conditions. Around 15,000 people died on this forced journey. Users should walk away feeling sadness and anger. They should be upset for what the United States did to these Native Americans, while also feeling a sense of sadness about all the lives lost on the Trail of Tears.
